The first record of a settlement on Singer Island dates back to 1906 with Inlet city. Inlet City was a spontaneous community of fishermen and squatters, most attracted to the island as a place to dry cotton nets that they used in those days and for its proximity to the fertile Gulf Stream.
In the 1920’s, Singer Island was a favorite picnic spot and playground for the wealthy residents of Palm Beach. Named for Paris Singer, son of sewing machine magnate Isaac Singer, the barrier island today boasts world-class beaches, blue water fishing, several marinas and proximity to the natural habitat of MacArthur Park. Minutes away at The Gardens Mall in Palm Beach Gardens, offering upscale stores. The adjacent Downtown at the Gardens offers exciting restaurants, a 16-screen cinema and a variety of interesting shops. Also nearby are challenging golf courses such as those at PGA National, and Mirasol, home of the Honda Classic, as well as world-class spas.
Palm Beach, Worth Avenue is one of the first outdoor shopping districts in the country where it was developed by Addison Mizner in 1922, the posh avenue continues to attract clientele from around the globe. Palm Beach includes such landmarks such as the Breakers Resort, Whtiehall, Mar-A-Largo, (Donald Trump’s private club) the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, and an array of world-class dining and cultural settings. Palm Beach International Airport and private jet center are a 20-minute drive from Singer Island.
Over the years, Singer Island has evolved into a resort area with hotels, marinas and waterfront condominiums. Pristine beaches, sunny weather and world-class fishing remains the quiet distination which envisions of what life in South Florida is all about.
